In the video above, Real Housewives of Atlanta star participated in SheKnows’ Parents Tell All and dished all about life with her boys, 15-year-old Ayden and 12-year-old Dylan.

Parks has met her match with her “opinionated” boys who weigh in on all aspects of her life, particularly her youngest son, who she says inherited her “sharp tongue.”

“The hardest part of having a tween and a teenager is basically they’re so opinionated, they know everything, but absolutely know nothing,” she told us. “And so they’re always continuously challenging you or asking questions, and that’s these new age kids, because we didn’t do that when I was growing up.”

Parks, who split from her sons’ father, Apollo Nida, in 2017 after eight years of marriage, says her boys also don’t hesitate to speak their minds when it comes to who she dates.

“The oldest one is more interested in what the people look like,” she said. “The youngest is more interested in what their bank account looks like.”

“The youngest, he’s like, ‘What kind of car do they have? Do they have a plane? What can they do for us?’ The oldest is like, ‘Is he attractive? Does he have muscles?’ You know, like one wants Fabio, the other wants, I don’t know, Jeff Bezos.”

That said, Parks isn’t taking her sons’ opinions too seriously, telling Stylecaster in a May 25 interview that she’s feeling “free” since returning to RHOA single, eight years after fans last saw her on the show.

“Well, when you first saw me, I was married to a person who was very controlling,” Parks said. “Now, I’m free to be who I am, and I don’t have to consider my partner. I’m single, satisfied, and successful. I can do what I want, and I don’t have to worry about anyone else’s opinions.”

Jessica Biel & Elizabeth Banks Break Down 'The Better Sister' Ending Twist & the Clue Viewers Missed https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/videos/1234887094/jessica-biel-elizabeth-banks-the-better-sister-ending/ https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/videos/1234887094/jessica-biel-elizabeth-banks-the-better-sister-ending/#respond Tue, 03 Jun 2025 16:14:22 +0000 https://www.sheknows.com/?post_type=pmc_top_video&p=1234887094 Warning: This article contains spoilers for Prime Video’s The Better Sister

Elizabeth Banks and Jessica Biel’s twisty whodunnit The Better Sister kept us on the edge of our seats for eight episodes while we waited to learn who killed Adam, finally. After a finale episode full of turns, the show’s leads are breaking down that ending.

By the end of the series, we learn that Nicky (Banks) killed Adam (Corey Stoll) after learning that he physically abused her estranged sister Chloe (Biel). After successfully getting the murder charge against Nicky’s son, Ethan (Maxwell Acee Donovan), dropped, the sisters finally discuss the truth.

“It felt wonderful to say it out loud, because, you know, I knew the whole time that I did it,” Banks tells SheKnows of that moment, revealing there was also a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it confession from Nicky earlier in the show.

“What’s interesting is when you go back and watch the show, I literally say out loud, ‘I’ll just say I did it. I will take the fall for it.’ And everyone’s like, ‘Hahaha, no, you won’t. That’s insane.'”

Ultimately, as Banks explains, Nicky doesn’t confess because she doesn’t want to miss a chance to keep her son in her life. “The harm that’s being done to my son is heartbreaking to me, but it’s also very complicated, because I’m estranged from him as well. I’ve not been able to see him, and right now I’m the only person [who] can see him. So I think [Nicky] cherishes that.”

As we see in the finale, the sisters make a last-ditch effort to bolster their lies to prevent the police from uncovering the truth. After framing Bill Braddock (Matthew Modine) by planting the murder weapon in his home, they also get Detective Nancy Guidry (Kim Dickens) taken off the case by leaking information about her past to the press.

“There’s also an agreement made by the two of us,” Banks says. “We have to protect him now. We have to continue to protect him. So we’ve just learned this lesson that lies are bad for our relationships, but we’re going to keep a really big one from Ethan.”

“We’re really evil,” Biel jokes. “The right man is dead, and we need to keep it that way.”

The show ends with one final twist that strays from Alafair Burke’s 2019 book of the same name. In the final shot of the series, Jake (Gabriel Sloyer), Chloe’s lover, is seen lying dead on a beach with no obvious conclusion about how it happened, which perhaps leaves the show open to a second season.

How To Raise Kids in a World That Feels Like It’s on Fire https://www.sheknows.com/parenting/videos/1234886010/hello-cruel-world-melinda-wenner-moyer/ https://www.sheknows.com/parenting/videos/1234886010/hello-cruel-world-melinda-wenner-moyer/#respond Fri, 30 May 2025 20:45:52 +0000 https://www.sheknows.com/?post_type=pmc_top_video&p=1234886010 During our latest SK Conversations event, we sat down with award-winning science journalist and parenting expert Melinda Wenner Moyer to talk about one of the most pressing questions of our time: How do we raise good humans in a world that often feels anything but?

In this thought-provoking conversation, based on her new book Hello, Cruel World! Science-Based Strategies for Raising Terrific Kids in Terrifying Times, Moyer shares science-backed, realistic, and surprisingly hopeful advice for navigating the biggest challenges modern parents face. From media literacy and technology use to emotional resilience, self-compassion, and inclusive values, she offers tools that are practical for today — and foundational for tomorrow.

The book is divided into three sections — Cope, Connect, and Cultivate — and the discussion touches on all three, offering parents a framework that feels doable even on the hardest days. Moyer is refreshingly honest about her own parenting journey with her 14- and 10-year-olds, and she approaches tough topics with empathy, humor, and clarity.

Throughout the event, moderated by SheKnows Editor-in-Chief Erika Janes, we also included insights from members of our SheKnows Teen Council, who weighed in on what they really need from their parents right now — and what makes them feel prepared for adulthood. Their honest input adds a powerful dimension, reminding us that the best parenting strategies don’t just come from the experts — they come from listening to our kids.

Stassi Schroeder Showed Her Daughter This 'Vanderpump Rules' Scene & She Had the Best Reaction (Exclusive) https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/videos/1234878443/stassi-schroeder-showed-daughter-vanderpump-rules-scene/ https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/videos/1234878443/stassi-schroeder-showed-daughter-vanderpump-rules-scene/#respond Mon, 12 May 2025 15:41:27 +0000 https://www.sheknows.com/?post_type=pmc_top_video&p=1234878443 Stassi Schroeder had many iconic moments during her time on Vanderpump Rules, but she’s keeping them from her kids — apart from one famous scene!

When Schroeder joined SheKnows in studio for our Parents Tell All series, the reality TV veteran gave us an unfiltered look at life raising 4-year-old daughter Hartford and 1-year-old son Messer with husband Beau Clark.

The Vanderpump Villa star joked that she and Beau, who married in 2020, never thought they’d be the type of parents to allow screen time, but their views have softened over the years. “I remember being pregnant with Hartford, my firstborn, and me and Beau, my husband, were sitting at a restaurant,” she says. “We were so smug at this other family who gave their kids iPads or whatever, and we’re like, ‘We’re never gonna be like that.'”

“That’s hilarious,” she recalls now. “Before Beau and I leave the house, I’m like, ‘You got the phones? Do you have the extra phones?’ Because we’re not going to lunch unless you have the extra phones. That’s the only way Beau and I are able to just eat our meal and communicate with each other. So, screen time at the restaurant, I just highly encourage.”

That said, there’s one thing Hartford and Messer are most definitely not doing with their screentime, and that’s watching old clips of Vanderpump Rules on social media like the rest of us. In fact, there’s only one scene from the hit Bravo show that Schroeder and Clark have shown their daughter.

“We have shown Hartford our proposal in the cemetery,” Schroeder says of her 2019 engagement that paid homage to her love of ghosts. “It’s really cute, because she literally gets emotional, and then she just beams with pride.”

“She also calls it Paris. She thinks that we got engaged in Paris because all of the mausoleums kind of look like Europe.”

However, Schroeder has no intention of showing her kids any more scenes from the show.

“That’s it for now. I think I’ll hide the rest for as long as I can,” she says.

For more of Schroeder’s Parents Tell All revelations, including her kids’ thoughts about Lisa Vanderpump and her mom hacks, watch the video above!

Angourie Rice Made a Surprising Request to Her Mom Years Ago & It’s Now a Reese Witherspoon-Approved Novel https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/videos/1234876753/angourie-rice-kate-rice-stuck-up-and-stupid-novel/ https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/videos/1234876753/angourie-rice-kate-rice-stuck-up-and-stupid-novel/#respond Wed, 07 May 2025 16:27:35 +0000 https://www.sheknows.com/?post_type=pmc_top_video&p=1234876753 If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, SheKnows may receive an affiliate commission.

Whether you know her from the 2024 Mean Girls, Honor Society, or The Last Thing He Told Me, Angourie Rice is decidedly one of the biggest rising stars in Hollywood. But her latest project is one that none of her fans could’ve predicted.

On May 6, she released her debut novel, Stuck Up and Stupid, alongside her actress and playwright mom, Kate Rice.

“Our book, Stuck Up and Stupid, is a YA contemporary retelling of Pride and Prejudice,” Angourie says in an interview with SheKnows. “It’s about Lily, who lives in a small beach town outside of Sydney, and her summer is changed when a group of young, talented, good-looking Hollywood movie stars come to stay in her beach town. There, she meets Dorian, who she finds quite standoffish and rude at first, but their paths keep crossing, and it’s a beautiful story about love and friendship and families.”

As for the inspiration behind the novel (which was just selected as Reese Witherspoon’s Summer YA pick!), it all stems from the mother-daughter duo’s love for Jane Austen.

“We are both huge Pride and Prejudice fans, huge Jane Austen fans, and we each separately had an idea to do a new, contemporary retelling or an update, and I was really interested in looking at what happens next,” Angourie remembered. “So, our story actually follows the children of the original five sisters in Pride and Prejudice, but set now and in Australia.”

But while the two agreed on the story, writing together wasn’t necessarily their first idea.

“I came to Kate, and I said, ‘Can you write a contemporary retelling? I just want to read it,'” Angourie remembers. “And she said, ‘Let’s write it together.'”

Plus, they started writing when the COVID-19 pandemic left them quarantined in Australia, and all they could do was stay home.

“It was beautiful, it was during COVID in Australia, and we had so Angourie was home, and we had time, and I went and bought some big A4 notebooks and pencils, and we wrote it all by hand from the start,” Kate recalls of the time.

Luckily, working with one another was a breeze. “It’s really great to work with a partner who is really supportive and encouraging, and also just to work with a partner who keeps you going when it’s difficult,” the proud mom says of her daughter. “You can talk through problems, and when you go, ‘This is terrible, worst thing ever,’ then the other person can say, ‘No, just keep going.'”

“It’s nice to work with Kate, in a way that’s not just like mother and daughter, but we’re working together as two creative people who like telling stories,” Angourie reflects. “It’s really nice to have something together in that way.”

In our video series Common Ground, the two answered some burning questions about their exciting new novel, their love for reading, and Angourie’s incredible career.

When it comes to who Angourie’s favorite TV mom is, the two agreed on Jennifer Garner (aka her co-star in The Last Thing He Told Me). “Jen is the TV mom I’ve spent the most time with. We did two seasons together. So really, like, I feel closest to her because we spent so much time together,” Angourie explains. “She’s so kind and warm and welcoming that as soon as you’re about to freak out, you don’t anymore, because she’s so nice.”

But Kate Winslet, who co-starred with Angourie Mare of Easttown, follows closely behind. “I was very starstruck meeting Kate,” Angourie admits. “I met her on the first day of rehearsals for Mare of Easttown, and she came in with like, seven different binders for each of the different episodes and all her notes and all her highlighters, and she said, ‘This is my method,’ and in that moment, I was like, ‘Wow, I just love that so much.'”

Kate couldn’t agree more. “When I met [Winslet] for the first time, she was like, ‘It’s Angourie’s mom,’ and she just came up and gave me the biggest hug,” she remembers.

We also asked the mom-daughter duo about Mean Girls, a movie Angourie helped reboot into a musical in 2024. “I’ve seen the 2004 Mean Girls so many times because we had it on DVD,” she admits. “And so when you were working, my sister and I, we would sit in the corner with our little portable DVD player and watch Mean Girls 2004 on repeat.”

“My favorite line, obviously, is, ‘I’m not a regular mom, I’m a cool mom,'” Kate says of the iconic Amy Poehler line.

Kara & Ella Mendelsohn Find Common Ground https://www.sheknows.com/parenting/videos/1234872677/ella-mendelsohn-kara-mendelsohn-common-ground-video/ https://www.sheknows.com/parenting/videos/1234872677/ella-mendelsohn-kara-mendelsohn-common-ground-video/#respond Fri, 02 May 2025 16:56:25 +0000 https://www.sheknows.com/?post_type=pmc_top_video&p=1234872677 Fashion veteran Kara Mendelsohn and her 20-year-old daughter Ella Mendelsohn — a content creator with a flair for beauty and fashion — sat down with SheKnows during the photo shoot for our Mother’s Day issue for a lively round of “Common Ground,” putting their mother-daughter bond to the ultimate test: how well do they know one another? In this fun guessing game, they try to predict each other’s answers about everything from favorite places to shop to shared makeup staples — and even the vintage pieces that mysteriously make their way from Kara’s closet into Ella’s. (Hint: It helps that three generations of women in their family all have the same shoe size!)

Along the way, they laugh over old-fashioned battles — like when a belt-placement disagreement turned into a full-on debate during a viral video shoot — and reflect on the timeless advice Kara has passed down to her daughter: sometimes, when it comes to beauty, less is more.

When the question “How are you most alike?” came up, Ella was skeptical that there’s much similarity: “I feel like these are gonna be different,” she says. But while they don’t always guess perfectly, and their preferences don’t always align, it’s clear that their connection runs deeper than clothes or cosmetics. From sharing trends and travel dreams to swapping lip glosses and life lessons, Kara and Ella show how style, humor, and heart can bridge generations. It’s a sweet, funny, and relatable look at how the best fashion legacy isn’t about what you wear — it’s about the memories you make together.

Watch the video to see how the guessing game turns out … and to get a heartwarming glimpse into the fashion, fun, and family moments that bring Kara and Ella even closer.

Teens Share the Best Beauty Secrets They Learned From Their Moms https://www.sheknows.com/parenting/videos/1234872514/teens-share-beauty-advice-from-moms/ https://www.sheknows.com/parenting/videos/1234872514/teens-share-beauty-advice-from-moms/#respond Fri, 02 May 2025 14:00:00 +0000 https://www.sheknows.com/?post_type=pmc_top_video&p=1234872514 More than women’s magazines, Instagram models, or the aisles at Sephora, my ultimate source of beauty inspiration is my mom. If I could sum up her years of wisdom in just a few words, they would be these:

Never overpluck your eyebrows. Always wear sunscreen. And most importantly, purple eyeshadow looks great with green eyes. (Just kidding — that’s not the most important, though I can testify it’s absolutely true. Something about the contrast!)

The real beauty lesson my mom taught me — the one that matters most — is this: smile, make eye contact, be kind, and ask questions. And, of course, purple eyeshadow doesn’t hurt.

Now that I’m 23, I still find myself relying on the beauty advice my mom gave me as a teenager. So, in anticipation of Mother’s Day, I asked teen girls to share the best beauty secrets they’ve learned from their moms.

To be honest, I assumed that in the age of “Sephora tweens” — when beauty often feels like something you can buy in a bottle, and every skincare product is treated like a status symbol — their answers might sound more like a shopping guide. But even though today’s teens are more exposed to skincare and makeup than I was at their age, the beauty wisdom they’re getting from their moms is still absolutely timeless.

In my conversations with teens in New York City, I heard a mix of practical beauty tips and bigger-picture advice.

On the practical side, 15-year-old Campbell shared her mom’s favorite beauty hack: instead of buying liquid concealer, use a little nude lipstick with a brush to cover up red spots.

Thirteen-year-old Reese’s mom gave her this advice: ’90s spaghetti-thin eyebrows aren’t coming back in style anytime soon. “Never touch your eyebrows,” she advises. “Keep them how they are!”

Another teen explained how her mom taught her to use kajal — a traditional Indian eye makeup — to define her eyes, applying it both along the lash line and the waterline.

And when it came to big-picture advice, one teen credited her mom with reinforcing the old adage: “Less is always more.”

Finally, one mother-daughter duo I spoke with shared a view of beauty as coming from the inside out. The daughter told me the best beauty secret she learned from her mom is to “Sleep well, hydrate, and be happy.” Her mom nodded and added, “Take time to take care of yourself first.”

Hearing that, I immediately remembered my dermatologist urging me, yet again, to drink more water. But even more than that, my takeaway from talking with these teens was clear: beauty is so much more than skin deep.

And so with Mother’s Day just around the corner, I’m feeling especially grateful to all the moms who teach us — through a mix of practical tips and timeless wisdom — how to glow from the inside out.

Kerry Washington Says Her Career Made This Major Pivot After 'Scandal' & We’re Only Now Seeing It https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/videos/1234873133/kerry-washington-career-pivot-after-scandal/ https://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/videos/1234873133/kerry-washington-career-pivot-after-scandal/#respond Tue, 29 Apr 2025 21:14:57 +0000 https://www.sheknows.com/?post_type=pmc_top_video&p=1234873133 While Kerry Washington might forever be known as the fearless Olivia Pope in Scandal, the actress has been a part of many exciting projects since, including the upcoming action-packed movie Shadow Force. But while all those movies and TV shows continue to consolidate her as a major Hollywood powerhouse, Washington only recently revealed a surprising throughline in most of them.

I became a mom during my years on Scandal, but I was never able to kind of explore themes of parenting on the show because Olivia Pope made the very fine decision to not be a mom, I totally respect her choice,” Washington tells SheKnows. “It’s been thrilling for me post-Scandal to be able to explore lots of themes of parenting in the work that I’ve done, whether it’s in Little Fires Everywhere or Animals with Ben Affleck.”

In Little Fires Everywhere, Washington starred opposite Reese Witherspoon as single mom Mia as she moves into a small town in the suburbs as shakes up the life of the picture-perfect Richardson family. In Animals, a movie that’s yet to be released, she plays a wife to a mayoral candidate (Affleck) whose son has been kidnapped and is being held for ransom.

“I’m drawn to how parenting impacts our decisions,” Washington adds.

In Shadow Force, Washington plays a secret agent who broke the rules after falling in love with a fellow spy (played by French actor Omar Sy) and welcoming a son together (Jahleel Kamara).

“I had been looking for an opportunity to do more action, because I really love doing that kind of work, but this film really stood out for me, because, yes, it is a big, splashy action adventure, but at its heart, it’s really about love of family and about being a parent who will do anything and everything to protect what matters most to you, which is your child and your family,” Washington says.

Playing a mom onscreen was made even easier when she met her onscreen son in Shadow Force. “Jahleel is a superstar,” she says of the child actor. “I feel like he steals the movie [in] every scene he’s in.”

“One of the first things that Omar and I did when he signed on to the film was read with all these actors to cast that role,” she remembers. “And we met Jahleel, we were like, ‘This is it!'”

“How could you not love him?” she adds. “He’s just so adorable and so talented and so smart.”

In the movie, in between intense heart-racing action scenes, the family of three shares some sweet moments, like dancing and singing to Lionel Richie in the car.

“I feel like music for a lot of families is a way for you to connect and bond, and Lionel Richie is like the soundtrack of our lives for this family, Lionel is attached to all of our greatest memories and moments,” she adds. “And I was joking with Lionel recently on the phone. I was like, ‘You’re like the fourth member of our family. It’s like a mom, dad, a son, and like our cousin Lionel, who’s just with us all the time.’ So music can be a really special way to connect.”

In her family, Washington, who’s a mom to daughter Isabelle, born in 2014, a son named Caleb, born in 2016 and a stepmom to her husband Nnamdi Asomugha’s teenage daughter, jamming out in the car is also a favorite activity.

“We also sometimes will take turns where, like, you can pick any song you want,” she says. “We kind of rotate around the car, which is a fun thing to do.”

https://youtu.be/M7LhGytiHFM?si=96qwwO7MudPKm3C4

Lastly, we asked Washington what’s harder: learning French in front of Sy or getting ready for some impressive fight scenes.

“Luckily, I wasn’t just learning French in front of Omar, but with Omar, he was super supportive,” she says. “A lot of times, he would say the words to me, and I would say them right back to him, like a parrot, because I was like, ‘You have to help me. This is not a language that I speak.’ He was great and so supportive.”

“So the fight sequences were much harder,” she admits. “They took a lot more time to learn, but they were it was all fun.”

“Every second of making this film was really so hard but joyful,” she says. Shadow Force hits theaters on May 9.

Chrissy Teigen Had 'No Idea' About This Aspect of Type 1 Diabetes Until Her Son's Diagnosis https://www.sheknows.com/health-and-wellness/videos/1234872650/chrissy-teigen-miles-diabetes-diagnosis-surprise/ https://www.sheknows.com/health-and-wellness/videos/1234872650/chrissy-teigen-miles-diabetes-diagnosis-surprise/#respond Tue, 29 Apr 2025 16:12:46 +0000 https://www.sheknows.com/?post_type=pmc_top_video&p=1234872650 For Chrissy Teigen and John Legend, their son’s Type 1 diabetes diagnosis last summer came as a shock. Miles, their super-active, sports-loving 6-year-old, “didn’t show any symptoms,” Teigen tells SheKnows. “We were just thrown into this whirlwind of chaos, trying to learn everything under the sun as quickly as we could.”

It started when Miles came down with a case of shigella, a bacterial infection that was going around his football camp. “His body took it really hard,” Teigen recalls. “A lot of [the other kids] just had stomach cramping and didn’t feel very well for a few days. Miles came home from camp and was just doubled over in real pain.” It was unusual enough that Teigen and Legend took Miles to the hospital, where he stayed for three days. Eventually, the couple noticed that doctors were giving Miles a lot of blood tests — which seemed out of the ordinary.

It was Miles’ pediatrician who explained that there might be an underlying issue. “He said, ‘We feel like his blood is telling us something,'” Teigen remembered. “‘He is here because of this sickness that he got at camp, but we are definitely fighting something else here too.’ And so all signs pointed to him having Type 1.”

Teigen’s father and many family members on her mother’s side have Type 2 diabetes, but the model admits she “knew nothing” about Type 1. “I had no idea how all-encompassing it is to have Type 1,” she says. “I thought it was manageable by [monitoring your] diet… I had no idea that it follows you everywhere, at all times of the day.”

Managing Miles’ Type 1 has now become a major part of the family’s life, and Teigen says it affects their other children — Luna, 9, Esti, 2, and Wren, 22 months — in different ways. “We might be doing bedtime with Luna, and I feel like her vibe is a little off,” Teigen explains. “Sometimes I’ll have to bring it up, like, ‘Is it Miles? Do you feel like Miles is getting a lot of attention from Mommy and Daddy lately? … and then we just hug and talk about it.”

Luna also gets frustrated when she doesn’t get “tokens” like Miles does — the system the family uses to reward their kids for doing chores or having good behavior. “She’s like, ‘I don’t get a token for for putting on my device or pricking my finger!'” Teigen explains. They rely on open communication to make sure everyone feels heard. “By them being so open about their emotions with us, we can figure out ways to make it better for everybody.” (Wren and Esti, meanwhile “just don’t care about anything,” Teigen laughs. “They think it’s so cool… they get to bring out their little plastic doctor kits when we’re mixing the insulin. They’re just all about it.”)

Of course, the one dealing with the brunt of the diagnosis is Miles. “He’s constantly on the move, always running around, always in the pool, always catching a football, always playing basketball,” Teigen says. “He’s just so active. And then all of a sudden, we had something that would have to interrupt that a little bit, all the time.” They’ve had to encourage Miles to be more vocal about how he’s feeling. “He knows Mommy and Daddy are a little bit more worried all the time,” Teigen explains. “So if he’s feeling sleepy or sick or nauseous, Mommy and Daddy have to know about that.”

Miles’ biggest concern? That he wouldn’t be able to play sports anymore. “That was a huge deal for him,” Teigen remembers. “And we were like, ‘Absolutely you can.'” Now, she says, Miles gets “so excited” whenever he sees or meets someone else with diabetes — like Nick Jonas, who the family connected with soon after Miles’ diagnosis last summer. “What could be a better introduction to the T1D world, than than someone like that?” Teigen says.

That’s why Teigen and Miles have been vocal about his diagnosis, including working with the pharmaceutical company Sanofi and their Screen for Type 1 movement to promote early screening for Type 1 diabetes. “It has been so game-changing to get to be spokespeople for this,” Teigen says, “because it really is nice to see yourself reflected in somebody else. I know it matters so much to him when he sees somebody else [with Type 1].”

Teigen also knows firsthand how important it is to know your risk for Type 1. “Early detection is key,” she says. “We had no time to prepare. If we would have had, I’m not kidding, a week — [it] would have made a difference, much less a year.” And even after Miles was diagnosed, Teigen and Legend weren’t encouraged to screen their other children — “so we really want to get the word out there that people should talk to their doctors about screening, and just so you don’t get blindsided by something.”

Speaking out about Miles’ diagnosis has also had another positive side effect: creating a massive network of support for their son as he navigates the still-fresh diagnosis. “He’s surrounded by the coolest, most supportive village ever,” Teigen says. “Yes, our family, but also encompassing all the people that know about our family and know about him. It’s really cool.”
